In Bhagvad Gita,it is stated,
“For him who has conquered his mind, the mind is the best of friends; but for one who has failed to do so,his mind will remain the greatest enemy.”
So let me brief you about the human MIND and why it is considered to be so important.
1.First and the foremost thing one should know is that MIND & brain are two completely different things.Brain is a physical organ present in the body while the MIND is metaphysical, that is it can nowhere be located inside the body.
2.Characteristics of MIND-
The natural tendency of mind is to run like a wild horse. And when it does so,it generates countless number of thoughts.
Thoughts may either be related to the past which may generate feelings of anger, regret, resent, guilt, grief.
Or else, thoughts may be related to the future which could generate feelings of anxiety, fear, stress & so on.
In both cases, one would be cut off from the eternal moment of NOW.
3.State of JOY-
Although any feeling can never be described in words, but Anandmurti Gurumaa has the best definition for JOY: Anything which stops the THINKING of mind, gives a high feeling, where the mind is not clamoring, waiting or hoping for something to happen, where for a fleeting of second there is a sheer fulfillment; that can be called Joy.
Different individuals may find joy in different conditions. For example, a young boy finds joy in his toys, a girl may find it in her glamorous dress or slim figure, an elder finds it in chuckles of his grandchildren.
Although external conditions are different but the outcome for every individual in above case is the same, that is MIND comes to a stand still. In the next post I shall discuss how to bring MIND to a stand still or basically how to control your Mind. Thanks for visting & reading.
