HOW TO CONTROL YOUR MIND

MINDThe secret power that lies with Human which makes him special among the rest of animals is that he can learn to control MIND.This is why we are the highest form of creation.

Now imagine something that is precious to you,for eg. your Car.You will take extreme precautions to prevent it from getting damaged.You will pay complete attention,each time, while driving & parking your car in order to prevent it from even a minor scratch.You will hesitate to let others drive your Car. In a similar manner,one has to protect his Mind from a wandering sate.He can not rely on others.And one thing is clear that your MIND is the most precious thing you have,much more important than your car & other material acquisitions.
Mind is the key to changing the nature of our experience.Consider this,if one would had to cover the entire surface of Earth with a soft substance in order to prevent our feet from being hurt,it would have been nearly impossible.But merely by covering the soles of our feet with shoes,it is as if the entire surface of Earth was covered.In a similar way,if we had to purify the whole world of ignorance,aversion & attachment;it would be very difficult indeed,but simply by purifying our own minds from these three basic afflictions,it is (for us) as if we have purified the whole world from them.

Now,let me give a scientific touch to this topic.When you are in a state of Supreme Joy  (when your mind comes to a stand still),you can check for yourself that your breathing/respiration rate goes almost to nil.This is an important point because it connects the metaphysical thing (MIND) to a physical thing (breathing).You tend to take long & deep but very less frequent breaths compared to a state when your mind is wandering.This is the most basic technique followed in Meditation.When you try to reduce your breathing rate by taking long & deep breaths,your mind slowly but automatically comes to a stand still.Hence,you can use this technique in moments of Anxiety,resentment,anger,frustration,stress,jealousy,greed,depression (these are the times when your mind is out of your control & it is solely responsible for these emotions).

Meditation is compared to sharpening a pencil.Just as we sharpen a pencil for a purpose, we sharpen our MIND by meditation for the purpose to attain wisdom.If we want to eliminate the darkness of ignorance & see the real nature of existence;we will be unable to do so if our minds are weak,distracted & unsteady as a result of habitual emotional & intellectual disturbance.

If you practice hard,you will achieve the single-pointedness of MIND.And remember,it is only you who can guard your own MIND.Nobody else will do it for you.It is then that you will be able to experience the Supreme LOVE, the Universe has in store to offer to you.
And you will have the power to control your MIND at any time & at any place.

    I love the analogy of covering our feet with shoes instead of having to cover the entire earth – that is perfect! A great way of describing the way learning to control and purify the Mind changes our entire experience of the world around us.

    It is truly incredible the wisdom that can be attained when we learn to go still. And the Supreme Love. Exquisite.

    Hi both!! I too am mechanical engineer…..
    Well..this post caught my eye cause am trying to practise some self discipline lately…as my mind wanders a lot. Although pateince isn’t my strongest suit as is required in meditation it would be great if we discuss right from the basic of how to start…..As I have always found and felt that mind control is possible and unleashes tremendous energy which is latent when mind has mind of its own…

      I’ve one method that’s works best.Keep a card with yourself in which it is written,

      “At Present, Focus your mind on the task at your hand”

      During the day,whenever your mind is wandering a lot & causing you troubles,
      Read this every time.Practice for few weeks until you become the master of your own mind.

    Hi Ashish,
    I’ve had my share of trying to achieve this NIL state of mind & after making some gradual improvements I realized that the reason for this feeling of joy is your mind becoming witness to your thoughts. I mean that’s how we start detaching ourselves, right? When your mind stops being judgemental about your own thoughts & things around you, you start being in the moment free of preconceptions. See according to me meditation just makes our journey from birth to death smoother: what you’re basically doing is dieing a bit everyday. Because it’s only after feeling death closely that we start appreciating life more.
