LAW OF KARMA part I

Karma is one of the fundamental topics found in Hindu philosophy.Just like the law of attraction, understanding the concept of Karma moves you from a competitive plane to a creative plane.Although Karma & Rebirth go together but let us first focus on Karma in detail.
Not only the people of West but also the majority of people in the East have misunderstood the meaning of Karma. To begin with,I must start by mentioning that Karma certainly is not fate or pre-destiny.People use it as a vehicle for means of escape from their wrong doings.Fate of any living being in Universe is definitely not pre-decided.

‘Karma’ means action. And not just a mechanical or involuntary action but an intentional, conscious & deliberate action motivated by volition or will.It is a dynamic term rather than a static one.
There are 2 types of action-Wholesome & Unwholesome.Actions are wholesome in the sense that they are beneficial to oneself & others. These actions are hence, not motivated by ignorance, attachment & aversion but by wisdom, detachment, love & compassion.Unwholesome actions of
1.Body-Killing,stealing,sexual misconduct
2.Voice-Lying,harsh speech,slander,malicious gossip
3.Mind-Greed,anger,delusion

The scientific approach to Karma is that every action must have a reaction or effect.Very simply, sooner or later Wholesome actions result in happiness for oneself & others;whereas Unwholesome actions result in suffering for oneself & others.

Weight of the Karma is decided by taking into account subjective & objective conditions. The objective condition is the living being towards whom the action is directed & nature of relationship that exists between the object of action & subject. For eg.If we perform wholesome actions towards our parents or teachers, the weight of the action will be more.Subjective condition is the (wholesome)action done with persistence, willful intention, determination & (unwholesome) action done without regret or misgivings.

There are 3 categories for the amount of time needed for the effects of Karma to manifest itself-in this very life,in next life or only after many lives.
Some Karma have effects that are visible in short term. For eg.If I learn French, soon I’ll be able to speak in French.Although we ourselves can’t see the medium & long term effects of Karma, but there are spiritual masters who’ve developed their minds through the practice of meditation & are able to perceive them (Which I think should not be a topic of concern to us).
God does not watch you every time & then sit to evaluate your past Karma. It is a law of nature just like gravity which is taken care of by itself. One may ask Why on the Earth is there a need to bring this whole topic of Karma here?It is because of Karma of many past lives added together that decides in which of the Six realms should an individual soul be born. That will be discussed in detail in the next post.

Secrets to Your Own Healing Power–I think that’s the title. It was one of Dyer’s very early releases. I read many more, but this was the first and started a quest that has filled my life with spiritual beliefs and many other writers.
