Thought is much more than something you do.It is that 99% part of you, which Buckminster Fuller referred to as invisible & untouchable. The remaining 1% is the physical body of yours which can be seen & touched.
You relate everything & everyone on Earth through the mechanism of Thought. It is not an external world that lies ‘out there’ but the world that you choose to process in your thoughts.
Here’s a mini lesson from author Wayne Dyer on thought.Your entire past up to this moment is a thought.Your desire to improve your life is really your thought to improve your life.Your relationships to everyone in your life are nothing more than thought.Your determination to succeed is nothing more than your thought to do so.Your attitude about anything are really your thoughts on these matters.
A human being,on an average thinks about sixty to seventy thousand thoughts in a single day. So,where do these thoughts come from?Obviously,it is the brain which is the place of thought formation but consider this if I peek in to your brain, can I find these thoughts?Answer is No.Thoughts reside in metaphysical dimension.Another important point here is that it is the wandering Mind which is the reason for generation of thoughts.
If Mind is not completely still, there will be a continuous production of thoughts. This is true because when we are sleep, our senses are not active but still the Mind is active & hence, thoughts reveals in form of dreams. There is a beautiful analogy I read in the book of Yoga practices which relates Mind,Body & Soul.
Consider your body as a lake in which the soul resides in bottom depths.Mind is then compared to the winds which continuously blow over the surface of lake. The blowing wind (Wandering Mind) in turn produce waves, which are compared to thoughts. The waves keep on rolling over the surface until the wind blows.
Here is the catch.Till the surface of lake is being disturbed by waves, the bottom of the lake can not be seen (or realized).Hence, the soul or the pure Self remains completely unknown to a person who has failed to discipline his Mind.
So,as long as the ego is identified with the thought waves ,the realization of soul or the Atman is not achieved. The practices of Yoga aim to achieve this union of outer & inner Universe.Ancient Indians used to define Yoga as an effort to separate Atman (the Reality) from the non-Atman (the apparent).
